Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Tamar Frankiel I’ve been fascinated for decades with the period that gave rise to both early Christianity and rabbinic Judaism. So when I began writing fiction, the idea of writing a historical novel of that time had great appeal. I discovered that the second century was much less explored by novelists and it was also a good setting for a female heroine. All these factors converged to give birth to Dalit bat Levi of priestly lineage, married to a rabbi, faced with a new life and momentous choices in the pagan-dominated society of Roman Anatolia (modern-day Turkey).
