I only really write true stories, so I suppose the first part of my writing process is living. I try to be present and observant in my everyday life. I try to take notes, both mental and written.
Then I just start. I find that if I start with a single idea or sentence, and just begin writing-- I eventually find myself to the truth of whatever I am trying to express.
Then I go back and edit, edit, edit!

Sack Nasty is a true story based on my incarceration. I decided to write this version of the full story first for many reasons. It encapsulates all the really awful things I experienced which allows for a lot of healing for me, and the readers and friends and families who survived the experience with me. It stands as a guide for topics that I'd like to bridge into larger conversations. It is also my buffer for those who I'd rather not sit and tell these types of stories to-- they can, as my publisher says, #BuyTheBook.

I'm made entirely of works in progress. I almost always have a blog in progress, or a project related to social media. I am writing the memoir version of Sack Nasty-- a much longer, much fuller tale.
My pet project at the moment though is an illustrated version of my poem "The Upside-Down Tree". I am excited to make it come alive.
