Too many to mention. I love exploring other people's lives and dreams and the puzzle of working out a narrative that works . I also love not having to leave the house to go to work if the weather's bad.

I don't have many mysteries in my own life, but when I was a teenager, a boy from my village went missing. He had a job, a fiancee a happy life to all outward signs, yet one day he left home and didn't return - that was nearly 40 years ago and it still stays with me. I knew his parents well and saw how devastated they were. Fast forward to Britain's Got Talent (can't remember if it was last year or the year before) when the choir consisting of people who's loved ones had disappeared was on - that really pulled at my heart strings and reminded me of that boy from so long ago. It made me wonder how hard that must have been for his loved ones to waken up every morning wondering if he'd walk through the door or if they'd get a police visit. There are so many possible scenarios around missing people - and that is an area I will be visiting at some point. I just need to decide whther it will be most suited to my Nikki Parekh series or my Gus McGuire one

The one I've just finished writing (DS Nikki Parekh #2) was inspired by a talk I went to at Bradford Literature Festival in 2018 by Baroness Lola young about modern day slavery. The idea haunted me and I began to research just how prevelant it is. I then was driving home through the snow one day a few months later and visibility was poor and I could barely see the vehicle in front ... that became the start of Nikki book 2. Sorry I can't giveaway the title just yet. There will be an announcement in the New Year and it will be available from April 2020
