The sequel to Secondhand SUmmer is with the publisher and due out in 2019. Sam is older and not much wiser. He and his brother Joe face off over the Vietnam War and try to find each other on a moose hunting trip. Sam does a lot of growing in this story.

Letters from Happy Valley came about when I received a collection of letters from 1958 that my parents wrote to Ohio as we travelled north and homesteaded in Alaska. In fact, these letters are big part of the book. They tell the true story of homesteading in Alaska.

Sometimes the best thing about being a writer is the pride of accomplishment when writing is published or admired. Other times the best thing is the process -- creating characters and stories with just the right words. I think it would be hard to keep writing if i didn't enough the process. . . . And I love the idea that I can do it just about anytime anywhere.

Writer's block comes in different forms. Sometimes the writer can't figure out were to go with a piece of writing. Other times the writers fighting a lack of motivation to write at all. And then there are times that the writing isn't flowing and feels substandard. A good hour spent outdoors being active either with recreation or chores clears my head and helps me think. Other times I just have to bull through write even until the flow returns.
