Originally, it was based on a dream. But, The Blue Moon Narthex is a prime example of having an idea for a book, but derailing somewhere. However, I ended up in a better place than where I planned.
Be okay when your ideas aren't coming out as planned, you may be surprised.

I always have the urge to write. Surely, I'm not the only one who sits down at the computer and nothing will move from my brain to the keys. I just sit, read something I typed earlier, or another book. I am okay with staring at the screen for a while before being able to start. It's not an instant switch from my real world mind to my writing world mind.

I am working through the 2nd book for the Karmanic Soverign Legion Series: The Kin Larsi Agenda. I am very excited. It will not slow down from the Blue Moon Narthex. A sneak at the beginning of it is in the back of the Blue Moon Narthex.

A few things:
1. 'Hammer on the keys'
Worry less about details of what you are typing and more about actually getting it typed. If the bulk of the story isn't on the page, you can't fine tune it.
2. 'Teamwork'
No matter who you are, you need help. Without all of the great people that have helped me with ideas, editing, morale, and marketing, I am sure the Blue Moon Narthex would not be completed today.
3. 'Goals'
If you want to finish, hold yourself accountable for making progress. I doesn't have to be big steps, but don't let a project stand still too long.
4. 'Thicken the Skin'
The longer you spend on a manuscript, the more attached you get to it. As you let your work suffer the opinions of others, really listen to all of the feedback you receive. Don't take offense to suggested changes, but really look at why someone would comment on a particular section. Stick to the things that are truly important and be flexible to things that aren't.

Being a fiction writer is great, because I can forget about the rules and stresses of the world for a while. Losing myself in typing is the most refreshing feeling that I know. Writing is my time to create something with no wrong answers.

I have found that I am a chapter by chapter writer. I often skip to another chapter that I have in mind, and let the spot that held me up sit for a while. Often times, the block works itself out by ideas coming to bridge the gap the next chapters. In fact, the first chapters of The Blue Moon Narthex were written after much of the story was already complete.
