Old as my tongue, but not quite so much as my teeth.

It's just a pen name. It doesn't really stand for anything. :)
My original idea was "Cleití Capall." It's Irish and means "horse feathers," which is another term for nonsense. Someone pointed out that it's unpronounceable to anyone outside the Gaeltachta, so I munged it from "cle-chi cah pull" to "H.C. Cavall."

Oh, the usual. Shoring up electronic defenses. Trying to prep for the impending apocalypse in 2017.
Other than that, peachy! (No, really. I'm thankful for the comforts I do have right now.) Just released my first paperback and nearly cried from joy when I saw it. It's an actual, physical book. That I wrote. And it looks like a book, too! Not something that was thrown together slapdash and tossed out there!
Sorry getting to this way late, BTW. Goodreads apparently doesn't notify me when there's a question. :P

Fatalism, rending of garments, and weeping.
No, but seriously. Find a place you feel safe and comfortable, then let the characters talk to each other in your mind's eye. Once the scene comes, start recording it. Don't think about how good or publishable it is. Just start typing/scribbling until you stop.
Try to avoid the weeping thing, it doesn't really work. Voice of experience.

Read a lot. You can't write a good book if you don't know what "good" looks like (or "bad", for that matter). Find a place you feel safe to write. If it's your first time out, don't overestimate your non-writing skills (no offense). Freelance editors are your friends.
Consider eBooks over traditional print if you're willing to put in a lot of elbow grease, and I mean a LOT. Royalties are better, and you can get your work to the public without convincing a middle man. Otherwise, just keep on querying, and don't worry about rejections. There's no magic formula or shadowy cabal, just a lot of people with very few openings and ulcers from trying to fill them.

Getting my book out there. I do pretty much everything myself---editing, soliciting/photoshopping covers, layout, ePub compiling, social media---and it's pretty draining.
It's critical, though, because want to get a running start with "Tainted" and increase the possibility of a sequel. I've already started on it, but I want to make sure I'm not howling into the void before I go through this again.
