I don’t know about the summer, but I can share what’s on my nightstand now. I Never Promised You a Rose Garden by Joanne Greenberg, and Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman. Both of these books are research for my next novel about schizophrenia.

Scary two sentences.
In the cold darkness where I lay on my back, I listen to the eulogy, and the cries of my name over and over again. The sound of dirt hitting what I believe is my coffin, drowns out my screams, “I’M ALIVE!”

Dear Techie:
I’m embarrassed that it took me a year to answer your sweet message. I’ll use the excuse that I was very busy writing my second book, My Brother Javi: A Dog’s Tale ( due out February, 2020). And that’s partly true - the other part is that I was not familiar with Goodreads mail. (Who knew?).
So, thank you again for choosing to read this serious, but important subject matter. My wish is to start a conversation because sadly one in three women and one in five men report having been sexually abused before their 18th birthday. My prayer is that readers (survivors) find this story both educational and inspirational.
I’ll be checking my mail more often.
Best,
Tracy

"Where Do I Begin..."
My favorite fictional couple is from Erich Segal's best-selling novel, Love Story. In he 1970 movie version the scene opens with Ryan O'Neils character, Harvard Law School student, Oliver Barrett IV, sitting by the Charles River talking about how he lost the love of his life, twenty-five-year-old school teacher, Jenny Cavilleri, played by Ali MacGraw.
They fall deep in love despite their vast differences. He is a jock from a wealthy family attending Harvard University and she is from a working-class family studying classical music at Radcliff College.
Neither of their fathers bless their union. They listen only to their own inner voices, marry anyway, and immediately make great sacrifices. Oliver is cut off as an heir to the Barrett fortune and Jenny postpones her music career to teach in order to support her new husband through law school.
Barrett and Jenny's soulful relationship proves to be their once-in-a lifetime-love that rises way above all physical forces that tend to tear relationships apart.

I'll step away from my computer when the flow of creativity weans. I'll spend time with my family, play ball with my dog, bake cookies (for my students) or work out. I no longer get frustrated when I experience "writer's block" because I know it's simply part of the process.

I'm just experiencing the BEST thing now. After a long period of isolation (that's what many writers experience), I now have the greatest opportunity to connect with my readers. I love answering your questions and hearing your feedback. So don't be shy. Thank YOU for your support.

We all have a story in us. You need to live each day to the fullest and write just one thing you learned each day. After one year, you will have many lessons learned - some of which will fit perfectly into your story. READ, READ, READ! And don't be afraid to ask for help.

The fall semester is devoted to my students at Adelphi University. Come January, 2017, I will be formatting THE ROPES THAT BIND for Kindle. By the summer of 2017 I hope to be starting to write another novel. No, not a sequel - something light-hearted, probably a story about a dog.

1. Sometimes while I sleep, I have these very vivid dreams.
2. I meditate while I walk my dog and bake. Also reading a great book or watching a terrific movie often inspires me.
3. Listening to my students/clients.

THE ROPES THAT BIND is based on a true story, so unfortunately the seed of this idea was planted in my head when I was nine years old. The creative writing evolved during the writing process
