Train yourself to sit there for a set amount of time everyday. Don't worry how much you produce, just be there always. Some days you'll get a couple of sentences, others a few paragraphs, just keep pushing forward. Never feel bad about lack of production, production will come with your dedication. Only feel bad about not showing up.

With my first novel and the book I'm working on now writer's block hasn't been much of an issue. In both cases I've had basic outline in my head of where I wanted to go, but that doesn't mean I didn't run into road blocks and dead ends. They were constant. When this happens the first thing I do is grind a bit with the language. If that doesn't work I step away and get a cup of coffee, pet the dog, fold laundry. Kind of do a soft reboot. Sticking to this process things eventually work out.

Well, that's kind of a complex question . My book, "Written In The Stars; The Book Of Molly," is about a 17 year old girl who fully embraces the ways and means of her Irish/Catholic heritage and neighborhood, while growing suspicious of them at the same time. This is how I felt growing up in Irish/Catholic South Buffalo in the 1970's. It was a place I loved, but in some unformed, inarticulate way knew was really messed up, and, I wanted to explore this disconnect. While my assessments may be a bit unpopular I think I went where the story led me and was honest in my conclusions.
