Write anyways.
It sounds so simple- and I definitely have days where I can tell my brain isn't going to churn out anything good- but more often than not, I make myself write anyways. Even if it's just a journal entry or a free stream of thoughts.
I have found that writing leads to more writing, so when I feel stuck on a project, I usually switch my focus and scribble a small poem or a quote, and the good energy I receive from producing something usually helps break down that block sooner rather than later.

Traveling to different worlds in your mind.
I love the freedom found in imagination. You can create any moment you choose through words and explore so many aspects of life through the lens of writing. It's like taking a journey to all these different places through the use of ideas, thoughts, and fancies strung together by letters, phrases and sentences.
Writing gives me wings, so I can fly anywhere I want at any time. If you can dream it you can create it, and I love expressing myself through creativity. It nourishes my heart and spirit. For me writing is living art, come to life within the pages.

Just write. Be fearless. Write some more. Be more fearless. Keep writing and fearing less and push beyond your previous comfort zones.
Learn to handle rejection. Learn to handle people not liking your work. Get behind your own vision of self and get behind your own work. Be true to who you are- don't write how you think others want you to write, write how you feel you must write. Worry less about publication and more about the work, the publication will come when its time.
Put your heart into it, but don't take yourself or your work too seriously. Chaos always precedes creation, so let yourself be messy. Write bad poetry when you have writer's block, it may not cure the block, but it will make you laugh, and laughter makes everything lighter and easier.
Be kind to yourself. Practice good self-talk. Be kind to others. Say kind words to them. Support other writers and take the time to give encouragement- there is room enough for us all.

I have four different projects that are in various stages of composition. I'm assembling a Women's Anthology around the theme of "Songs for our Country" that will be out in July.
I am also working on an inspirational poetry and prose collection, a book on finding the good and the sacred in the every day, and a book on self-love. Along with illustrations for all of the above. It's shaping up to be a busy year of writing and painting!

I wrote Lamentations of the Sea after the passing of my brother last year. At the time, I realized how many people don't want or don't know how to talk about grief, but I needed- I wanted- to talk about my experiences and the sad, strange, heart rearranging journey I was taking inside.
Writing was a way for me to make sense of and put words to an unwelcome passage of grief I never wanted to make but was forced to take after Brent passed. I didn't set out to write this book, but back in the spring, I realized I had done enough writing to compile a book. So I decided to try and write the kind of book that I wished I had last year when I was in the heart of my pain.
It is my hope that the words are a friend and companion to others who know loss.

I've developed the habit of writing almost daily, because I have found that writing leads to more writing. Sometimes inspiration comes easy, through nature, an event in my life, a personal reflection, something going on in the world, and I feel compelled to write my truth on that. Sometimes inspiration just doesn't seem to come, and I have to work a little harder at piecing something together. Either way, I try and write something anyways, even if it's just a short something, because you never know how those short somethings may evolve.
