Goodreads asked BethAnne Kapansky Wright:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

BethAnne Kapansky Wright I wrote Lamentations of the Sea after the passing of my brother last year. At the time, I realized how many people don't want or don't know how to talk about grief, but I needed- I wanted- to talk about my experiences and the sad, strange, heart rearranging journey I was taking inside.

Writing was a way for me to make sense of and put words to an unwelcome passage of grief I never wanted to make but was forced to take after Brent passed. I didn't set out to write this book, but back in the spring, I realized I had done enough writing to compile a book. So I decided to try and write the kind of book that I wished I had last year when I was in the heart of my pain.

It is my hope that the words are a friend and companion to others who know loss.
