Elise Garibaldi I'm very excited about my upcoming book, The Spirit of the Dragon Horse. It is a novel, and therefore very different than my first historical non-fiction book, Roses in a Forbidden Garden: a Holocaust Love Story. However, it deals with many of the same ideas such as thriving despite being marked as an "other" in society, navigating one's survival in a hostile world, and the belief that true love enables you to conquer any battle in life.
Elise Garibaldi The answer is quite simple, I just need a compelling story to tell. Once that story hits me, and I feel that it is mine to tell, it writes itself out in my head in its entirety in a matter of hours. Then it's up to me over the next few months to physically keep up with my inspiration while I get it out on paper. I usually write everyday until exhaustion!
Elise Garibaldi My most recent book, Roses in a Forbidden Garden: a Holocaust Love Story, was highly inspired by the stories my grandparents told me growing up. I knew from a young age that their tales of heroism, hope, and love needed to be shared with the world. I was truly honored that my grandmother trusted me with the most intimate details of her life during those very difficult times.
Elise Garibaldi What I love most about being a writer is the lack of limitations. I can let my imagination reach as far as it likes - which is QUITE far. Even when I write historically, my mind still enters the people and times of the past where I feel as though I am experiencing life as they did.
