Colleen Kachmann I had been "jogging" for several years before I read an article in Runners World that gave me permission to refer to myself as a runner. Doing so changed the way I felt about running. I went from having never run a mile to completing a marathon in a couple of years. The same phenomenon occurred when I started calling myself a writer. I went from a blogger who'd never been published (by anyone but myself) to a completed manuscript in a couple of years. The adage, "you must see it to believe it," is backwards. You've got to believe it if you want to see it.
Colleen Kachmann My next book will be more focused on cooking. I'm not going to promise it will be a cookbook with perfect recipes and pictures. But maybe. I know that is important to people--including me. Pictures add to the allure that entices us into the kitchen. That's scary to me because while most things I cook taste fantastic, my presentation skills need work. Overall, I want the book to showcase the kitchen as a place of healing. Food is medicine. Food is therapy . . . and art and love. When the kitchen is framed in the proper context, cooking isn't a chore.
Colleen Kachmann I stop writing. This is really hard to do. But once I realize that I'm writing in circles, the only answer is to move around and do something else. This energizes me and allows my subconscious to work out the issues. I usually experience some sort of Eureka! moment that hijacks whatever I'm doing to root around for a pen and scrap of paper and capture the idea before it fades.
