Hi Shelton. I love Clara, too. The third book is out: THE BLESSED BONES. There isn't a plan for a fourth at this time. Have you read my Sarah Armstrong series. The first book, SINNGULARITY, is free on ebook. The fifth is coming out in October. Thank you for reading the books!

That could be part of it, Stephanie. I do think those fake pot cigarettes she was smoking were a big factor. There are a bunch of studies concluding that they change brain chemistry.

Hi Zana. I hope there will be more Clara books in the future, but right now I'm working on getting Angel Falls out the door. It's coming out September 15th, so it's a bit crazy. I've worked on this book for such a long time, I'm so hoping readers love it!

I hope so, but right now I'm working on other books, Stormi. Thanks so much. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed them. I'm sorry it took so long to answer. I just saw this.

Actually, that would be plural: my experiences as a magazine journalist, tracking down sources, covering big stories and strange cases. At times, it was like a treasure hunt where I'd hit roadblocks, one after the other, and have to piece together at times conflicting clues. Those could easily lend themselves to inspiring a plot with a lot of twists and turns.

I'll see what I can do right now, Diane. Thank you for reading the book!

I'm so sorry. Somehow I missed your question and just saw it now. DELIVER US was very difficult to write. It covers a lot of cases, so the research was mammoth, and the cases were heartbreaking.

Hi Jacqueline! Nice to meet you. I haven't listened to the podcast. I've heard that it is quite good. Was there something in there that's different from what was in the book? I haven't heard of anything new coming out since the book was released.

My new mystery series is based in an insular world in Utah's high valleys, tucked into the mountains. I spent time in a town like this years ago when I was a magazine writer. At the time, I was covering an adoption case in a polygamous sect. I spent a week there interviewing the men and women, talking to the children, those in charge. It was an experience that stayed with me. I've used much of what I learned in the new mystery series. My main character, Clara Jefferies, is an apostate who fled the cult. In book one, she's called by a friend from Alber, my fictional town, and told that her sister is missing. Despite her misgivings, Clara returns to Alber to find her sister.

Yes. Book five will be out in the fall. Thanks so much, Debbie. Wonderful to hear that you're enjoying Sarah's world!

Hi Lady B! I'm so sorry. Somehow I missed this when you posted it. I'd love to do a group read. Just let me know when you want me to participate. I'm enjoying the group. Lots of good folks!

Hi Zachary. Good question. You know, they all stay with me. But the toughest book to put out of my system? DELIVER US. Partly because the murders were so random, but more so that many remain unsolved. In the book, I supplied a lot of the answers, especially in the 1990s cases. After the book came out an arrest was made of the suspect I interviewed and profiled. But I want the same result in the other cases. I want them all solved. The families and the communities deserve that.

Hi GL. It's not available by itself any longer. I folded it into a ebook exclusive called "Murder, I Write." I think it's on all the ebook outlets including BN.com and Amazon. Thanks for asking. So sorry about Patrice. Such a tragedy.

Hi Clara. Wonderful to hear that you enjoyed DLS. That Matt Baker is a snake, isn't he? Geez. After the trial, Vanessa taught for a while. The last I heard, she was still living in the same area, raising her little girl, and had a nonteaching job.

Sometimes I think the cases I write about pick me; they literally seem to jump out at me from my morning newspaper. I specialize in Texas, my home state. It's an amazing place to be a true crime writer. Texans live big and bold, we're brash, and the crimes mirror that. Sadly, there's never a shortage of incredible murders in Texas. I look for cases I care about, the ones I feel compelled to understand. I want to know who the people are, what brought them together, and what led to the tragedy that ended a life. I look for a case with an interesting investigation, lots of twists and turns, like a good mystery novel. In the end, the plots are often so extraordinary, at times even bizarre, that I couldn't write them as fiction. No one would believe them. Yet, they're real.

I'm currently working on two true crime books. The first is on Houston's Ana Trujillo case, one the press dubbed The Stiletto Murder. Ana is convicted of murdering Stefan Andersson, a brilliant scientist, a medical researcher, by pummeling him with her high heel. I've uncovered evidence that much more was going on in this case than was ever revealed in the intense media coverage.
The second book I'm working on made national, front-page headlines, the Kaufman County, Texas, murders of a district attorney, his wife, and the top prosecutor. It's a strange case of revenge with tragic results. Eric Williams, a justice of the peace, and his wife, Kim, have been convicted in the killings.

I can't imagine a better author to tackle the complexities of the Kaufman County, Texas murders of the DA and his wife. Casey has the sensitivity, savvy, and knowledge of the Lone Star personna to tackle this with her considerable skill and insight. Looking forward to it, and wish I had gotten that book deal! Congrats to an old and cherished friend.
