It began with an inward desire that I believe God put there. The "hound of heaven" was nudging me to write. Then as I began blogging and writing articles on social media, others began to encourage me to write a book as well.

Write something every day. Keep a journal. Think of it like a discipline. The more you practice, the better you get. Don't give up.

It was something that was on my heart for a couple of years. I work with people who are often in crisis or who have experienced some kind of significant loss. My job and calling brings me to intersect with people's lives when they desperately need hope. That is what this book is about. Finding hope in a broken world.

I don't get writer's block very often but when I do I just write whatever comes to my mind. I don't check punctuation or grammar. I don't even worry about whether or not it makes sense or flows. I just write. I want to tap my brain so that hopefully it unlocks a new area or thought.

Being able to influence others is the best thing about a writer. By writing you have the opportunity to influence people beyond your generation. Consider Moses and the Apostle Paul. Neither were gifted speakers, but God filled them and used them to accomplish incredible things for his Kingdom. Moses wrote the majority of the Old Testament, and Paul wrote the majority of the New Testament.
Moses led over a million slaves out of Egypt, watched God split
the Red Sea, and received the Ten Commandments, but he got
tongue-tied.
Paul planted hundreds of churches and has impacted millions of
people through his writings in the New Testament, but people were
not impressed with him in person and often fell asleep during his
preaching.
When you write you have the opportunity to influence people here and now and people in the generations to come.
