I once found a letter sent to my mother that revealed (in passing) that a young woman had been adopted, though it was clear from the context that the young woman herself, and those around her, probably did NOT know. This was a long time ago, but it struck me at the time that it could be the sort of secret one could come across by chance, going through someone's letters after their death.

I write a scene in the viewpoint of a different character than the one that's been predominating. I may not use that writing in the final work, but it gets me out of a rut AND can sometimes throw up a plot possibility - a new character or a new situation that will solve a puzzle.

Finding solutions to plot problems. That feeling of satisfaction from creating something from scratch, or of nailing something you're desperate to describe. And having readers say, I sat up all night to finish your book - I had to know what happened next!

Write, read, get other people to read your work, people who don't know you but are part of a group - like a writing group - who are prepared to give you honest, constructive criticism. It's very easy to get disheartened - especially when you read books you feel really aren't very good - but just keep plugging away. And read, read, read - the library is FREE and has all the latest books. And if you haven't got time to read, listen to audio books while you're in the car or doing the housework or clearing out the garage.

I've just finished a novella featuring Jeff Lincoln, but now I'm going back to the rewriting of the very FIRST Lincoln title, The Price of Silence. I published it myself as an eBook in 2011 but I've always wished I'd revised it. Once I've got The Shame of Innocence out, and readers were keen to read more about Lincoln, I was afraid they'd be disappointed if they read The Price of Silence before I'd had a chance to give it a good overhaul. Is that a wise move? Time with tell! Meanwhile, I'm hoping that novella, A Saintly Grave Disturbed, will be out in the autumn as an eBook.

I have simply always thought of myself as a writer. My father was fascinated by the meaning of words - for instance, why something can be dishevelled but not shovelled, or what's the opposite of ruthless? And I've always had a vivid imagination!

I wanted to write about the different backgrounds of two young girls who both fall victim to the same killer or killers. Writing about Barbury, the market town where D I Jeff Lincoln works, gives me the chance to explore a wide range of people and circumstances.
