I have begun research on a story but have not yet decided if I am going to move forward yet. I am in a rest period really. Just marketing and trying to learn the ropes as a self-publisher.

For me, I have written a history book and feel I have kept a very important story active and alive. Something that was forgotten by many is now back in the present and being remembered and talked about. The tragedy to miracle story is approaching the 50 year anniversary mark this coming May. I have had teachers tell me they are going to read this story in their classrooms out loud. That is the ultimate compliment and the best thing about being a writer.

I just write down the thought that I want to get across. I write it a few different ways. I Don't get hung up on writing a perfect sentence, phrase, paragraph etc. Just get it down on paper and move on. Then go back and organize thoughts in a logical way. Then re-write, re-write!

Make sure you write down your thoughts and rough draft your story over and over. Just write it down, even if it's not any good. You can go back and edit later. And you will, re-write after re-write.

My grandfather told me the story of having to identify his nephew's body after the accident. I always remembered that and saw how much pain it caused him. I just had it in the back of my mind for quite a few years to write the story.
