Writers get told to read a lot, and that's excellent advice! I recommend reading intentionally though, at least some of the time. Take note of the way an author pulls you into a scene, or involves your senses so you feel like you're experiencing the story first hand. As you pick up on the tools of the craft that your favorite authors are using, those techniques will naturally infiltrate your own writing!

I'm thrilled to be writing another romantic suspense set in Willowdale! This time with a senator's daughter, a wounded warrior veteran with a lot of healing to do, and someone they trust who's playing a deadly game of blackmail. Plus cameos from previous characters, of course!

If I'm just feeling lazy, I find a kick in the pants is helpful...though I also use walks in the woods or near a lake as a great way to brainstorm. If a book is stuck, I take a long look at my characters' motivation and the conflict they need to overcome. Often it needs to go deeper before the book can move forward!
