I.G. Roberts Hi Donovan. I'm very close to meeting that deadline. If I don't, I will only be at most two weeks late. Right now I'm writing Chapter 28 out of a total 30 Chapters. Provided something doesn't distract me, this one will be completed mid week or earlier. The other two are quite short and will wrap up the story with a nice bow. I hope you enjoy the story when I publish.
I.G. Roberts Hi Larry,
Sorry about the delay in replying to you.
I'm about 70% done on Earthborne but expect to have it completed by the end of November. Had a little trouble with the plot for a while but I'm into the endgame now so it should flow much better.
I.G. Roberts Earth Borne is about 50% complete. I've had too many interruptions in the last few months but hopefully I'm done with those now. Without spoiling the story, Colin continues to battle the Pirates but is forced to endure diplomatic niceties which should be interesting given his direct approach with others. I'm hoping this will make a good conclusion to this part of the series as it finishes my original plan. Having said that, I've discovered that the writing process generates dozens of ideas for new books and one of these is a continuation within the Star Man universe where Colin isn't the central character.
I.G. Roberts Yes there is. The next Book will be called Earth Borne and is intended to close the circle. I have a high level plot mapped out in my mind and I'm currently trying to map it out on the computer so I can fill in the holes and then I'll write it. The current plan is to release mid year. I do have other books planned for this Universe too but want to let those ideas mature a little before I try to write them. In the meantime, I plan to start a new series (after I finish book 4 of this one). I hope readers will find it exciting and I'm using events from Earth as an inspiration.
I.G. Roberts I'm working on the last two chapters now and should have it out in the next two weeks. My apologies for the delays, I've had a lot of interruptions lately and I'm running about a month or so behind my original schedule. On the plus side, I've worked hard to improve the quality of writing with each new story. I'm hopeful that you'll enjoy Star Strike more than the others.
I.G. Roberts I am reading a book called Alarm of War - Desperate Measures. There is a space station called Atlas in this book and it is run by an AI called Gandalf. I would like to visit Atlas where I could talk to Gandalf and learn something of its personality.
I.G. Roberts At first I try to bulldoze through it. In an answer to a previous question, I said to write every day, even If it's only a hundred words.
If I'm really struggling to get my thoughts together, I put the laptop down and pick up the kindle. I always have a few books there that are waiting for my attention. I find that reading for an hour will often clear my mind and then I can get back to it.
I.G. Roberts I have two best things about being a writer:
The first is the pure pleasure of seeing a story come to life as I write it. I try to write a story that I will enjoy reading and work hard to achieve that.
The second is seeing reviews from people particularly when they've enjoyed my story. I especially like my readers telling me what they liked about it but I like the criticism as well. The criticism helps me improve.
I.G. Roberts 1. Sit down and write. The more you write, the better you will become at it. Try to write every day, even if it's only a hundred words.
2. When you are on a roll, stick to it. Get those ideas out there while you have them.
3. Keep notes of any ideas you have. They might not all go into your first book or story but may come in handy later.
4. Do NOT be frightened of criticism. Some people may give you bad feedback but look at it anyway. See if you can learn from it and address it.
5. See if there is a writers group in your area that you can join. In my area, the public libraries have been running seminars that I attend to learn whatever I can.
6. Look for blogs about writing. For example Joanna Penn does one that is a good starting point.
7. Always remember, learning is not just about sitting down in a classroom, or reading a self help book. Gain you knowledge from where ever you can find it.
That's a start anyway but if you want me to answer any more questions, post them here or you can go to http://igroberts.com/contact and send me a message from there I'll reply as soon as I can.
I.G. Roberts At the moment I'm working on Book three of the star Man Series. It is called Star Strike and is basically about Colin Gordon cementing his reputation in the Federation when he goes to rescue an Admiral who is captured by the Pirates. I won't tell you any more than that other than to say that the first few chapters overlap a little with the end of Star Rise though they don't repeat the same events as the ones in the 2nd book. I'm planning to release this book in about October or November.
The final book in this series is called Earth Borne. In that one, Colin returns to Earth with a lot of people who were kidnapped by the Pirates. Again, I won't say any more just yet because I don't want to spoil it.
I.G. Roberts Reading primarily. As it turned out, I discovered I had a lot of fun writing. This was especially true with Star Rise. I think (I hope) it is better than the first one. Inventing an entire universe, and building characters has been one of the most rewarding things of ever done. Mostly, I do it for the fun of it. The simple answer is that I've discovered I have a lot of stories I want to get on paper so I thought I'd just do it.
I.G. Roberts I would have to admit this is quite difficult to answer. I've always been an avid reader, especially of Sci-Fi. On top of that, I work as an Engineer in the aerospace industry. I have an hours drive each way when I go to work so my mind just free wheels. I started building a story in my head and decided to see if I could write it. Originally, I planned the story to be one book but I quickly realized the scope was far too broad for that so it morphed into a trilogy then four books in the series. As a heads up, I have lots of ideas for future books.

But, back to your question, as I said, I am an avid reader, and will read nearly anything. In addition to science fiction, I like reading about Military History, Thrillers, scientific articles. All this information seemed to gel together and the series was born. I hope this answer is adequate.
