Sheena Macleod This is a tough question as I love most book worlds. I am fascinated by the life and times of Charles II, so it would have to be the historical fiction book world. History is told through the eyes and pen of those who record events, often slanted to their own preferences and allegiances. While I was there I would look around to see how things really were. I would like to meet and talk to Mary Beatrice of Modena, Nell Gwynn and other characters from this time. I suspect that I would be shocked by what I heard during our natters.
Sheena Macleod Diane, thank you for reading and leaving your review. Yes, the events are very reminiscent of the public panic that surrounded accusations of communism in the 1950s and the mass hysteria generated during the Salem Witch trials- but on a larger scale. The stories are scarily similar and mirror those of other periods in history. It looks like such events are destined to re-occur, the only difference being the target group - as you say. It is only later
when objectivity is restored that things are looked at for the politicking that they were. Events have a habit of repeating throughout history. Thanks again for reading. I appreciated hearing your thoughts.
Sheena Macleod I am a researcher at heart and love to delve deep into characters and events of the time I am writing about and then watch them come alive on the page.
Sheena Macleod The books in the Sutherland series are based on actual events and characters who lived during this period. While my books are fictionalised dramatisations of these events and characters, most of the ideas come from intensive research of the time.
Sheena Macleod I am working on the follow up of the first book in a series, Reign of the Marionettes, following the Sutherland family from Restoration London through to the Highland Clearances. Fury of the Crown, covers the Monmouth Rebellion and flight of James II. It starts where Reign of the Marionettes finishes.
I am also working on a short story, Ghosts of Culloden, which will be included in the One Million Project anthology which is due out in the autumn of this year.
Sheena Macleod I research more about the characters, spend time visualising events, and try to come back with a clearer idea of the scene I am trying to write. If that fails, I edit.
Sheena Macleod Too many. I always have a backlog. I read numerous books for research for my 17th century historical fiction novels as well as those for pleasure. Even for pleasure reading I like a bit of fact to my fiction.
On my to read list are- Miriamne The Magdala by J B Richards, The Messiah Matrix by Kenneth John Atchity and The Country of the Blind by H G Wells.
