Anne Lovett I have a great-aunt in my family tree who has long fascinated me. Family lore says that she ran away from home and lived a dissolute life, disowned by her upright family. She died young, of unknown causes. I can see plenty of possibilities for a novel there, and one day I may write one.
Anne Lovett My favorite fictional couple? I'd have to say Scarlett O' Hara and Rhett Butler, hands down, and not just because I'm from Atlanta. They are both larger-than-life characters, a perfect match for each other, stubborn and proud, passionate and willful, courageous and determined. And they each have flaws that keep them from appreciating the other. In short, human.
Anne Lovett When I'm stuck, not knowing what comes next, it's usually because I don't know enough about the characters or the situation. I just ask myself questions about the character, write down the answers in a notebook, or go and read more research books. Then I start writing again. The words usually come. If they don't, I repeat the process.
Anne Lovett Writing is like weaving a tapestry. The best thing is taking all the threads, weaving them in and out, and afterward, seeing the finished work come together in a design. It's the feeling of a job well done.
Anne Lovett Ask yourself if you're prepared to make the sacrifices. If so, never give up!
Anne Lovett I'm currently working on a historical novel/love story set in World War II and the 80s. More than that, I'm not saying, but it's taking a lot of research and leading me into fascinating paths. It's by far the hardest thing I've ever done.
Anne Lovett I learned to read at an early age, and it seems that I've always wanted to participate in this business of bringing joy and information to others.
Anne Lovett A World war II veteran mentioned to me that he brought his wife back some rubies from his time in Burma. That small fact stuck in my mind for years until I wove a whole story around it. It wasn't about him--I hardly knew him and had no idea what he did in the war-- so I had to make all of that up.
