I've been writing professionally for four years, but I've written for my personal use for much longer than that.
When I'm starting a new book, I generally let the characters tell the story. I may start out with a general situation in mind, but once the main characters begin to take shape they take over the direction the storyline will go. The series I am working on now began with a short scene where the female lead becomes frustrated with a woman who is the epitome of a ditzy female. That one scene turned into a three book series.
I can't wait to see what the characters have in mind.

I try to write a book I would like to read. At Long Last unfolded itself to me as I began to flesh out the characters. I would close my eyes and envision what Dylan or Jenni Lynn would do in a given situation. From there, I would imagine the possible outcomes and choose my favorite.

I'm currently working on the second book in the Laurel Creek series. I'm excited to tell Matt and Emma's story. I feel more comfortable as a writer of romance novels than I did when I started At Long Last, so the process is smoother now. I think my readers will love it.
