Jodi Taylor's time travel/histfic series starting with "Just one damned thing after another" and "Queen Emma and the Vikings". Plus the various non-fiction Viking books I always have lying around (Vikings at War, Song of the Vikings)

That's easy: long walks in the forest or fields. Just emptying the mind, distancing myself from the desk and notes. And normally things fall into place, move on on their own, and I come back with fresh ideas and solutions. It's tried and tested and not only by me ;-)

I'm tempted to answer, but that one is so "unlikely" - although it happened - that readers would probably discard the book's plot as unrealistic. ;-)

My Viking stories are fuelled by my repeat-visits to Hedeby/Haithabu, northern Germany, the Viking town and museum. The place is just magical and breathes its history and the ancient past. Whenever I walk around there, my notebook fills itself, and on the drive back southwards I have to stop many times to take more notes while the stories unfold in my head while driving ... LOVE it.

With three short stories finished for the Tales of Freya sensual Viking short stories series, I'm hard at work finishing more...I want to add to the series so that it can be bundled up and ready as paperback next year.
The biggest project I'm working on since the year before last is Birth of a Shieldmaiden (working title), a Viking adventure saga featuring a young woman finding her purpose in life as a fighter and survivor - to hunt her family's tormentor down. This is epic and requires SO much work ... I'd rather be thorough, though, and I know I'll work on it for a few more months to come...

Oh - that would be Nyssa, the fierce shield maiden from my sensual short story The Current ... she's fearless and witty, and outmatches every man in battle. I'd very much be like her and just grab life by its horns.
