Karen,
At present The Predator and The Prey is only available as ebook from Amazon. It's only .99 cents so hopefully price is not a problem.
Sorry to hear you lost your phone.
By the way, the Kindle app is free. You can download it to whatever type of new phone you have. Then you go to your Amazon account feature "Manage your Content and Devices" and you download it to the new phone after registering the device.
Hope this helps!

I wonder how in certain instances in my life, people less qualified for a job got the job I was after.
If you like the idea of conspiracies and the "inner circle of the elite" taking care of their own, that might make for a good mystery or thriller.
Fortunately, my life and the jobs I pursue are not the high stakes, get someone killed for poking around variety. Some of us just aren't Jason Borne or Inspector Sullivan types!

This answer contains spoilers…
(view spoiler)[The idea for the character of Inspector Sullivan had been floating around in my mind for some time. A new story about local corruption combined with watching an old episode of Firefly and re-watching Dirty Harry sort of helped everything come together for the genesis of the idea of the story.
I had also grown tired of listening to all the political pundits and politicians talk down to the American people for the past 18 month long election cycle. I'm not one who takes kindly to being lectured to by people I have no respect for to begin with, regardless of political party, etc.
So it made it natural to include corrupt politicians and elitists as part of the story line. (hide spoiler)]

I read books constantly and keep current with news. I make it a habit to carry a legal notepad around with me to write things down. Anything. It could be things to remember to do, remind others about or ideas related to a story idea, etc.
Periodically I sit down and go through the pages in the pad and purge. Good ideas for stories are saved. Often just reading one will spur more ideas that lead to a writing spree.
It works for me.

This is hard to narrow down to a single pair. I like Chuck and Sarah from Chuck. For the Browncoats, I like Captain Tight Pants and Inara. From the Terminator Universe how can you not like Cameron and John?
I'm sorry, those are TV shows. From books I'd have to say of recent reading I find Daggers and Steele, of Alex P. Berg's Dagger's and Steele series to be fun.

When I am writing a novel, work of non-fiction or a short story, I set a word count for each day until the project is finished. I make myself write until that word count is reached.
Keep in mind, it doesn't have to be good, usable or even salvageable. I just have to write until the word count is met. If it can be used with editing or rewriting, great. If not, I just save it and set it aside.
Eventually, the story will decide to tell itself. You just have to keep poking it until it wakes up.

It's a fairly safe way to engage in being creative, that is until you send your story out in to the world. You don't actually have to do what your characters do in your stories. It's fun to let your imagination run wild and see where it takes you.
When I start a story, I have the start and the end worked out. In between, the story seems to just tell itself.
If you are lucky, you get to engage with fans of your writing. That's really neat and a lot of fun.

Give it your best shot. Know that every story needs an editor. Writing is a skill, story telling in my opinion isn't. You can develop you ability and skills as a writer.
Sit down and write. Discipline yourself to write so many words a day. It's okay if nobody but you ever reads what you write some days. It's a habit that must be cultivated.
Last of all, realize that YOU are responsible for promoting your book. It doesn't matter if you went indie or have a traditional deal. Being an author makes you a small business owner (hopefully a big small business). Learn something every day that will be helpful in making you and your book successful.
Success can be measured in many different ways. You don't have to have a NYT Bestseller to be successful!
Know that not everyone will like your story. It's just the way it is.
Also, know this. If you don't tell your story, nobody will every read it, and then the story is lost forever.
