I would go back to College Street, on which stands the University of Calcutta as well as the Medical College, Calcutta. The linked bookstores that line College Street are a treasure trove for the bibliophile. First, you stand and gape like Howard Carter, then you tentatively pull out a volume and experience the sensuous pleasure of riffling through the pages. You ask the storekeeper if he's heard of an eighteenth-century novel or an exotic treatise. In twenty minutes, the bush telegraph will put it in your hands!
