If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?
Ash Oldfield This would absolutely have to be a world that is rich with magic.

Of course the world of Harry Potter would be the dream. If I could have gone to Hogwarts...*happy dream sigh*.

I would also love to visit the world of the fae from The Bitterbynde Series, by Cecilia Dart-Thornton, because it feels like such a rich, vibrant world filled with magic and wonder. I would float weightless through the air and gorge myself on all of the amazing food and wine (I know, I know, once you taste the food of faerie you can never return home, but one can dream). And just like that I'm off to re-read The Ill Made Mute.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Ash Oldfield It started as a short story that I wrote when I was taking a break from a novel I had written. All I set out to do was to write a silly little story about a dragon to amuse myself. Once I had finished I realised the story had raised so many more questions than it had answered, and I feverishly began creating the world of Escoria and The Lands Beyond the Impenetrable Mist, simply because I *had* to know. Rachaya, her family and her friends were born, and the rest is history.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Ash Oldfield Keep writing until you finish.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Ash Oldfield I go back to the point in the story where I was still excited to write and see if I took a wrong turning somewhere along the line. If that doesn't work I spend my writing time reading books by writers much more talented than myself and cross my fingers and toes in the hopes that it will inspire me.
