Carrie Doyle I know, I had planned to make it a trilogy. Book 2 was supposed to be when they go to London to help solve Pippa's friend's murder and then Book 3 was supposed to be where they solve the Southborough Strangler case. My publisher didn't want a sequel and I even recently revisited it because they say that no one reads YA sequels, which is absurd. I said what about 'One of us is Lying' or the Holly Jackson books, but they didn't respond. It's hard to take sequels to another publisher so I am at their mercy. Thanks for asking.
Carrie Doyle Steve.Geck@sourcebooks.com is my publisher. Knock yourself out! And thank you so much for your kind words!!!!
Carrie Doyle HI Jessica, it is so nice to hear from you and I really appreciate your reaching out! Thank you so much for your kind words about the Trouble in Paradise series, which was a lot of fun to write. As of now, no plans for future. They actually didn't sell very well :( so I think my publisher wasn't interested. But maybe they will gain a following somehow and I can bring out more! Plum is so fun to write and I love transporting myself to the Caribbean during the bleak winter months! Thanks again for kind words!
Carrie Doyle HI, I am so glad you liked it! I actually think it would be a great limited series. My son and I actually wrote a TV pilot and have it outlined for 7 episodes. But it is so hard to get anything made in Hollywood! That's why I switched to books, I actually started as a screenwriter. There is some movement on my other books to be made into TV shows and hopefully if those go through I will have a bit more influence and can get this made!
Carrie Doyle Hi Morgan, thanks so much for reaching out and I am so happy you liked the book! As of now, no plans, although I have it mapped out in my head. I just need to sit down and get cracking!!!
Carrie Doyle HI! Thank you so much that is so nice to hear. As of now, no. They actually did not sell very well, which is a bummer. I thought Plum was a great character, a real badass. But maybe readers like you will find them and they can enjoy a revival. Fingers crossed.
Carrie Doyle Thank you! I'm not sure. I am working on another book right now that is not YA. I have had a hard time writing these days, as I have been very busy launching a mystery and crime festival (Hamptonswhodunit.com) but I do want to get back to it. I just need no distractions!
Carrie Doyle Hi and thanks for your nice words about 'The Murder Game.' I can totally relate to losing motivation. I would say the biggest thing you need to do (and I am still trying to do this!) is to view your writing as a priority, and not as a luxury. Easier said than done, I know. But my problem can be I put everything else first--laundry, kids, etc--and often leave my writing for the last thing as if it is a privilege not a necessity. But the way to be a successful writer is to create time to write and do it every day you can, even if it is just a little time. Mary Higgins Clark was widowed with six kids to support she got up at the crack of done to write before her official day started. And what a career she had! Good luck, keep writing.
Carrie Doyle HI Amanda,
Thank you so much for reaching out. I am so glad you liked the book! I know, I was very disappointed by my publisher's decision. You can try and tweet to them @draccah and @sourcebooksFire but not sure it would help. I don't know anything about BookStagram but apparently it is a big thing and that is how other authors got recognition, when their fans created campaigns. Maybe if there was a big enough movement, another publisher would pick it up? The series was supposed to be a trilogy, so hopefully they will pick it up. Thank you again for reading and your support! xCarrie
Carrie Doyle That's so nice to hear thank you so much!!! I had written the book as a trilogy and it is actually doing pretty well, but my publisher declined to purchase a sequel as they have "too many boarding school books" and "The Murder Game wasn't diverse enough." Bummer. But maybe they will rethink it if it continues to do well. Thank you so much for reading it and reaching out.
Carrie Doyle Hi Emma! I’m sorry to hear that it didn’t arrive. Did you win it through a Goodreads giveaway or cozy mystery launch party? In any event can you email me your address and I will have the publisher send you a copy! Sorry about that! My email doylecarrie@aol.com
Carrie Doyle Sorry Robin, I just saw this question! The first four books of the Hampton Murder Mystery Series are being re-released in mass market paperbacks this summer by Sourcebooks and as of yet, no plans for a fifth, but fingers crossed. In the meantime, I am finishing a new series called 'Trouble in Paradise' which is set in a tropical island and will come out next year.
