Lukas Grey I have been working on several projects at the same time, one of which is part 4 of this series! If you'd like updates, please feel free to regularly visit my website at lukasgreyauthor.com!
Lukas Grey Well, that depends on what's being asked!

As to my most recent published work, I got the idea by writing and forcing myself to write. That book turned out to be Shells and Masks and it just sort of took on a life of its own! The story just sort of continues to spiral and the more I work on it the more the characters seem to love to take me on strange twists and turns!

If, however, you are asking about the story I'm WORKING on, well that's an entirely different story...

For me, I tend to start out with a really trashy idea, and the more I work on it the more it tones down and becomes something that is character driven. I love that about my writing. The current story I'm working on was driven by a really sleazy idea that I came up with for a completely different novel. The basis of the story ended up getting cut from that story, but the more I thought about it, the more interesting it seemed to me to be.

The characters there really seemed to have a story to tell, and the more I worked on it, the more that seemed to be true!
Lukas Grey Boredom! I seem to have a brain that will never turn off. As a child, I had an active imagination and loved to make up stories and put myself at the center of them. As I got older, I managed to start separating myself from them. Managed to start seeing characters that were something other than myself. Now, now I love to use my idle time just working through how my characters interact. How they would solve the problems that I seem to love to make up for them!

Lukas Grey This one is really tough...

Are you really, really ready for the best, most inspirational advice ever?

Write.

Just stop making excuses and write.

And stop editing. This was the point that was hardest for me to get through. If I had a dollar for every time I started a really good story and ended up editing it into deletion... I'd have like twenty bucks...

But I'd rather have the stories back...

So, just write. Don't go back over what you've written, not until you're done. Yes, you'll find tons of errors. Yes, you'll have plot holes, but at least until you've gotten that first story out, just write. Once you've got the first one done, it gets easier. Until then, write, and don't stop!
Lukas Grey For me, this one is easy! Being a writer is like reading something you really enjoy, but instead of being tied to whatever direction the author chooses to go, I get to stand up and tell the story where to go!
Lukas Grey I don't generally have a lot of trouble with writer's block...

Only once have I really hit a wall with a book I was working on. I tried and tried to get the voice of the characters back and the more I tried the more I failed. At that point, I started getting really inspired to return to the Falling series. After gutting it up a little, and dealing with a little guilt, I finally realized that it was okay to put that book on the shelf a bit.

I've done that, and now, with a little bit of help from my editor, I have some really good ideas on how to come back to that title and finish it. I haven't done that yet, but time will tell!
