A Year and a Day was inspired by real-life events, despite it having the supernatural overtones. My first husband was killed in a car accident, and I struggled with the grief of being able to move on. I often stood in my own way, not realizing I was doing so.

I read and watch movies. I'll find little bits of things that inspire a story from watching some of the most random things. Once, I was even inspired by a commercial—I know, totally random!

I currently have three WIPs. They are all YA.
1) Dystopian YA—this will eventually become a trilogy, I expect.
2) Contemporary Fiction YA—a story that needs to be told.
3) Sci-Fi YA—I expect this could become a full series if I wanted it to.

Two things: read and write. The more you write, the better you'll become. The more you read, the more you'll start to absorb writing style and learn grammar, spelling, etc. It's a win-win either way.
My number one suggestion for ALL aspiring writers: Take a stab at NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month - http://www.nanowrimo.org) in November. But don't do it alone. Join the forums. Go to the write-ins. Make yourself a part of the community, because the community is what helps push you forward and help with confidence—and time.

Telling stories the way I want to tell them.

I write. Even if I'm not writing the current story—the only way I can break through a block is to write something. Sometimes I'll skip to a different part of the book to write, sometimes I'll work on something completely different. For me, Writer's Block usually happens due to one of two things:
1) Stress
2) A short-term creative stall due to working on the same thing for too long
If I know it's stress, I try to de-stress (key word there being try LOL). But it's usually #2. And the only thing that works to re-spark those creative juices is to write something that invigorates the creative side of my mind.

There are SO many books on my reading list this summer. I took a hiatus from reading while I was finalizing my book, and I can't wait to dive in. Books I know I'll be devouring by summer's end (in no particular order):
• The Wish Granter by CJ Redwine
• 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher
• Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare
• A Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
• and many, many more that I'll be picking up at UTOPiACon in June!
