Juliette Sebock The hardest part of writing poetry, for me at least, has always come into play during the editing process. I find that a piece either comes to me all at once and I struggle to make the necessary changes to it or the exact opposite occurs and I can't seem to stop editing!
Juliette Sebock For the first draft or two, this didn't bother me as much---I tend to find myself better able to express myself on paper than even in my head! But in preparing for publishing, this came to mind more. Knowing that people would be reading those thoughts and feelings is far more intimidating!

I think part of the beauty of poetry came into play for me in this aspect, though. There are so many pieces that are abstract, especially to the reader, so it's a great way to express these feelings without coming right out and saying "I feel like X during situation Y because of Z." Not only does it create something beautiful (or, I like to think it is!), but it forces me to process the emotions in order to create anything. So, in short, there are certainly difficult aspects, but that almost always makes the finished product better!
