Paper Airplane was actually written when I was 19. I was in college, dealing with that disease that many of us go through called homesickness. As I was looking through old pictures and notes from middle and high school, I came across a journal that I kept when I was in eighth grade (yes, guys can keep a journal too). As I read through that amazing, horrible year, I began to write. My coping mechanism. I wrote and wrote, sometimes physically unable to stop myself. And when I was finished four months later, Paper Airplane was born. After rediscovering it years later, I decided it was time to get it published (after some major surgery to the plot and writing). And here we are today.

Never put the pen down! Many people have a tendency to write, and then when they get stuck, or bored, or life stuff happens, they stop. Writing is a journey, with many obstacles in the way. The end of that journey is worth everything you went through to get there.

I have been writing since I was old enough to hold a pen. In fact, I still have one of my first ever articles that I wrote for my elementary school newspaper! Writing has always been a way for me to cope with hardships in my life. In fact, Paper Airplane was written during an especially difficult time for me. I see writing as my outlet for dealing with emotional times, in the same way others might use music or exercise to get them through.

Creating something out of nothing. It's amazing to see a thing that started off only as an idea in your head turn into an entire world, with characters who think and feel and experience the same emotions we all do. To be able to share that world and those experiences with readers is, I believe, why most authors write.
