David Meikle The idea for the title came from a commercial for Cadbury's Dairy Milk made in 2007 of a gorilla playing a drum kit. But the central idea for the book took many years to form because it's a proposed solution to a complex and widespread problem. It wasn't so much about having an idea, it was more about having a desire to tackle a tricky challenge.
David Meikle Original thought needs to be captured. My idea was long enough for a book. Other ideas have been smaller - blogs, tweets. Its just about sharing ideas for me.

David Meikle For business writing: research, research, research. Until you know subject backwards, forwards and upside down you can be in danger of writing yourself down blind alleys. Next, figure out a writing strategy. A friend explained this to me half way through writing my book and I suddenly went much faster. For me it required switching off of phones, email, social media and so on for reasonable periods of writing. Being alone in my room, warm enough, and not being hungry!
David Meikle As much as the finished article provides and immense sense of satisfaction, as a new author I only have faith that there will be more rewards!
David Meikle I stop and take a good break of I can. If I can't then I go for a short walk, think back to the central purpose of the book and get back into character. By that I mean I have to write with a certain voice, and I have to be in the right mood for that voice. If I force it tales twice as long because of rewrites.
