I've written 15 books and never experience writer's block. There are times though when I write myself in a corner and I need a great idea to get out of it. During those times, I tend to ride a lot in the mountains, listening to music inside my helmet. Nothing sparks my creativity like that.

I become general manager of the universe for a while. I love the solitude of it and I really enjoy working with co-author, Darryl Frayne. When I get writing, I do so at a brutal pace knowing that Darryl will be coming behind me, flushing out the details that make a good story, great. This allows us both to play to our strengths and I believe it translates well.

Some people are analytical and need to outline heavily before they start writing. If this is you, try reading "Sometimes the Magic Works," by Terry Brooks. I'm the absolute opposite. If you're like me, the worse thing you can do is overthink things. Sit down with a character in mind and cut em loose. The more real a character is in my mind, the less work I need to do because they take on a life of their own. If this sounds more like you, try reading, "On Writing," by Stephen King.

Now that our debut novel, Across the Fourwinds, is available for purchase, and book two is out of my hands and firmly in Darryl's for pre-production, I'm about to start work on book 3. This is going to be a massive nine book series and I could not be any happier with the way the first two are looking.

High adventure always gets my creativity flowing. I thoroughly enjoy riding my enduro in the backcountry of British Columbia. The scenery and the history found in ancient ghost towns inspire me to no end. I also enjoy working in third world countries and meeting people whose lives are so fundamentally different than my own.

I grew up in the small town of Cochrane. It's just about as far north as the roads can take you in Ontario and that isolation makes for some interesting thoughts, like what would happen if some dark creatures starting influencing the underbelly of a town? And how long would it take for the rest of the world to take notice?
