Richard Harvey Ask yourself why do I want to do this?
Richard Harvey The true teacher is yourself. Understanding this in the relative world is knowing there is no distance between you and your spiritual teacher... who is always present.
Richard Harvey Hello Lakshmi, I didn't choose spirituality, it chose me! When I was very young I sensed strongly a greater reality than this realm into which I had been born. It took me 25 years to find others like me with whom I felt a kinship and some sense of belonging. My life's mission was defined before I discovered therapy and spiritual teaching. When I did discover them I had found a way to realize this mission and later as an author I took the opportunity to express my inner knowing in words. Thank you for your question. Very best, Richard

Richard Harvey I meet people where they are dear Lakshmi. If a person believes in past lives, it's fine. Broadly in spiritual teachings there are exotic and esoteric teachings. The exoteric are concerned with morality, behavior, and social interactions. The esoteric are concerned with Eternal Truth. From the perspective of the exoteric, past lives have some credence because there is a central belief in individual existence. From the perspective of the esoteric, past lives have no meaning because everything is Consciousness.

Richard Harvey Most days I sit down at the keyboard and remind myself to just write! There was a time when I would have to delete the first five pages or so, but these days I'm not quite so destructive. Inspiration? I don't know about that really. I think you simply have to have something to say. Inspiration, if that's what it is, comes from your life. So I would say to aspiring writers you have to live fully and well, take risks and gain from your benefits and setbacks, experience as much as you can, enrich your inner life in particular. You bring something back -- a boon, a treasure, insights, some wisdom --that demands to be shared with human souls.
Richard Harvey Thank you Jai. About 60 shots if I remember rightly!
Richard Harvey Your Sacred Calling is a rallying cry to embrace the fullness of the human condition, to assume the great responsibility that comes with the gift of a human life, and to see through the superficiality and misdirection of the common confectionery of modern self-help, psycho-spiritual teachings.

After a lifetime of involvement in the field of inner work, I became critical of therapy and spirituality in its present form. I countered my criticism with the idea that everything is basically alright and in the end even the watered-down version leads to the authentic, the more profound and deeper forms. As a synthesis of these two positions I felt obliged to write Your Sacred Calling.

Thus, my new book, Your Sacred Calling, is an innovative and original book on preserving the sacred truths, rituals, and practices that connect us to our divine selves and empower us to grow through our personality to spiritual realization. The central theme of the book is that the sacred is fast disappearing from our world, not only due to the materialistic, non-spiritual culture, but through the influence of the spokespeople and teachers who purport to be speaking out for it. We have become immersed in spiritual half-truths, superficiality, and self-serving compassion. However, the book points the way through this mire of confusion and shows how to turn the adverse circumstances in which humanity presently finds itself into a precious opportunity for awakening.

Richard Harvey The solitude, the meditation, the fear and the elation, sometimes both at the same time, the autonomy to be master of your own destiny, the freedom to say anything you want to, the arrested but absolute relationship of mind and heart to paper, the belief in the illusion that somebody might be listening, might read what you have written and hear what you have said. The valley you traverse in the conceit of communication, the sweat and physical sensation of effort even as you sit down putting on weight without any lasting respite. The hope that your book and your book rather than any of the millionsof others, reaches and informs, inspires and transforms one single person.
Richard Harvey I don’t really get writer’s block. Rather I am excited, enthused and finding it hard to get enough hours in the day to get down all I want to say before my demise. Inevitably I will fail to record all I want to convey. One of my longer term plans is to train up students who will perform the task for me and probably do it better than I could. Toward the end of my life my thought is to speak to those interested in my thoughts and work and on the basis of the conversations have them represent the ideas in written form. Having said all this, my advice to those experiencing writer’s block is simple and it was hard-won by me in the early days when I still hadn’t got it and when I would send hours gazing mistily at the keyboard – JUST WRITE!
Richard Harvey A new book entitled Your Divine Opportunity. The book not only stands on its own as an exposition of the psycho-spiritual journey, but completes the trilogy which began with Your Essential Self and Your Sacred Calling. Your Divine Opportunity relates to the spiritual stage of life as Your Essential Self pertained principally to the psychological. As long ago as 2002 I set out to write a trilogy of psycho-spiritual books that gave a comprehensive account of the relationship of personality to the transcendence of self… now at last, the work is almost complete!
