Sarah Beach If I get stalled on a particular story, it is usually because I've hit a particular problem that my mind hasn't worked out yet. If I can't sort it out quickly, I set that work to the side for a bit, and turn to another project (I usually have a couple of pieces in various stages of development).

If I am stalled just on the drive to write, I make sure I get some rest, and then sit myself down and write something, anything; journal entries, blog posts, notes for a project. I exercise the writing muscles until they are ready to get on with the work-at-hand.

Sarah Beach Ideas for stories or non-fiction projects can come from anywhere. I keep a file of little ideas that have hit me, though they may not have grown to a solid form.

However, to sit down and actually do the writing is a different matter. It would be easy to say "I write when the spirit moves me," but the truth is that it is something that should be exercised each day. Whether it is journaling or working on a current project, each bit of writing energizes the mind to carry on for the next. The more I write, the more I want to write.
Sarah Beach Creating Graphic Novels was inspired by a conversation with a screenwriter friend, who planned to make a graphic novel out of his screenplay. But he didn't really know how to proceed - he thought it would be enough to give the screenplay to an artist. Because I also knew a lot about the professional side of comics and graphic novel creation, I tackled the job of giving a clearer introduction to that process for other writers.
