Ideas for stories or non-fiction projects can come from anywhere. I keep a file of little ideas that have hit me, though they may not have grown to a solid form.
However, to sit down and actually do the writing is a different matter. It would be easy to say "I write when the spirit moves me," but the truth is that it is something that should be exercised each day. Whether it is journaling or working on a current project, each bit of writing energizes the mind to carry on for the next. The more I write, the more I want to write.
