I enjoy reading several genres. When thoughts of summer come to mind, there are always some great contemporary 'beach reads' books I look forward to reading. Brenda Novak, RaeAnne Thayne, Sheila Roberts and others immediately come to mind.

I would travel with Claire from the Outlander series, but only if I could live in the shadows of Claire because I'm not sure I would survive otherwise. She is fierce!

The sweltering day found Millie with her tennis shoes tied together and slung over her arm, halfway watching where she was going while she stared at a Pinterest how-to video on her phone when she noticed the white sedan slow to a stop beside her. The male driver, the only occupant of the car smiled at her as if he had a secret and then Millie noticed the bloody tennis shoes in the back seat and realized too late who he was.

The best part of being a writer is knowing that people enjoyed getting lost in my story. When I hear from a reader, it always inspires me to write more. I have one reader who wrote to me after she read Tunnel of Time when she was in the third grade, and she has kept in touch over the years. She wrote me in 2021 to let me know she was entering the seventh grade and partly because of reading my book, she was a self-professed book nerd! It's hard to express the joy her email gave me, as an author, it was like winning the lottery!

Both of my first two books were the result of NaNoWriMo. November is NAtional NOvel WRIting MOnth I highly suggest NaNoWriMo.org if you have ever considered writing a book. It's a fun way to sort of force the words out of you. You have thirty days to write 50,000 words. Those words are the basis of your book if you choose to continue after the competition.
The first book I published, Tunnel of Time came about when I decided I wanted to give my grandchildren an adventure story. It all started with the two most important words in beginning a story, 'WHAT IF?'. In this case, what if a normal, everyday county fair ride had an accident that allowed the three sisters to meet notable people in history? It was so much fun to write that I forgot that it couldn't really happen! I didn't set out to write time travel and especially nothing in the fantasy genre, and to be quite honest, the notion that being swept away to a different time was simply a daydream on paper to me. Why couldn't it happen?

There were two deaths in my hometown that have always been a mystery to me. The first one happened when I was too young to remember much and the second happened after I moved away. Every once and a while, I will do an internet search, but I've never found anything. One was the murder of a teen girl and the other was a 'death of natural causes' of a grown man. I keep these mysteries on the back burner but don't be surprised if they don't turn up in a future book of mine.

I think 'writer's block' gets too much attention. Try to unclutter your mind by taking a walk, or a nap, or talk to complete strangers. (Unless you're a child, in that case, never talk to strangers, lol)

Never stop seeking advice and write, write, write. Nothing you write is unworthy because regardless of who may see it, it helps form you into a better writer.

Another time travel YA book. Working title is Mirror, Mirror. It's about a 16 year old girl that goes forward in time. Based in the year 1985. Mirror, Mirror was another NaNoWriMo project.

I've been writing a long time, but the two pieces I've written 'The End' on have been projects of NaNoWriMo.
