Anne Iodice The 5 W'S ARE AS FOLLOWS: 1: WHO: Refers to the characters in a story; 2. & 3: WHEN & WHERE: Refers to the setting in a story; 4: WHAT: Refers to what happens in a story (sequence of events); and 5: WHY: Refers to why something in particular happened (cause & effect). We also discuss MAIN IDEA AND SUPPORTING DETAILS. This also applies to a child's personal narrative writing piece. When a child becomes a good writer, that child will also become a better reader.
Anne Iodice There was no mystery in my life. None at all. School, work, school, work. I always enjoyed writing and passed that love to my students, which is not a mystery. Sorry. Thank you.
Anne Iodice Oh no! The moon is falling!

Always thought about writing a science-fiction YA about the moon, for whatever reason, went off its path around the earth and suddenly, little by little, started falling into the Earth. Oh no!
Anne Iodice I was a Kindergarten teacher for many years, and the one book my class enjoyed was Alice in Wonderland. I worked with a co-teacher and what we did was bring in a long mirror into the classroom and had each child make-believe he or she was going through the looking glass and land in where-ever they might enjoy being for the day. One little girl landed up in an ice cream factory and ate all the ice cream in the factory. I think that might be an enjoyable place to be.
Anne Iodice Well, my husband has a medical issue so I have been more or less on Google reading everything relating to his issue. But thank you for the question.

Anne Iodice I put this make-shift book together because the photos of Capone were so cute, I had to do something with them. I knew my class of Kindergarteners would also get a kick out of those photos. In order to hold the interest of the children, the book had to be short. As long as it had an introduction (main idea), three details to prove the main idea, and a closing, the book was complete for me and my class. At that time It was not about having this make-shift book published but to have an enjoyable read-aloud with my class.
Then, as a response to literature, I asked the class to write letters to Fallon, Capone's owner, on his behalf. I used those letters to create a bulletin board. At that time my colleagues saw the bulletin board and that was when they encouraged me to have my make-shift book published after I retire. Giving it some thought, I decided to go for it and to my surprise, Page Publishing accepted the draft. Now I sent them two more drafts, "Capone Goes To Kindergarten" and "Capone In The Big Apple." Can't wait to continue the journey as a Children's Author.
Anne Iodice As of yet, I have not experienced writer's block. Only wrote one book, and because the photos were already there, it was easy enough to put words to the pictures. Currently not working on another book until I see where this one goes.
Anne Iodice The feeling of accomplishment.
Anne Iodice Enjoy the process. Put words on paper as your first draft, then go back and edit and revise. But you need to start somewhere.
Anne Iodice If my book, "Can We Talk?" takes off, I will see about publishing a second book with Capone in New York.
Anne Iodice I was a kindergarten teacher, and teaching reading and writing to five year olds was very challenging as well as extremely rewarding. A big part of teaching the skills to read and write is to model what you wanted to teach for that particular lesson. I enjoyed the road from going from labeling a picture to writing a simple sentence, to writing a beginning, middle and end (intro, details , conclusion) with the class. It really was amazing to see the growth the class showed over the school year.
