It doesn't take much. If I have the time, I am at my computer. I wrote Final Notice in about 3 months. It took twice as long to edit it and get it published. Having something to say and to share with others is an inspirational requirement.

I'm in very early development of a sequel to Final Notice, but I intend to have it out in 2018. Most of what I have been thinking about is still rumbling around my head, but the keyboard will soon be punished.

Enjoy it! Write about something you know and feel passionate about. Don't worry about writing rules and everyone's advice. Be yourself. Set modest goals so you don't disappoint yourself. You can always raise the bar later. And...finish what you start. Only 3% of books that are begun, are finished, so be the exception.

Obviously setting your own time and place. I write from home - mostly - whether that be in France or the US. Having flexible hours is a gift. I can do errands when I want to, see people when I want to and even take a nap if I want to. I call it re-charging, so it's considered part of the job.

Fortunately, I haven't been afflicted yet, but my career is in its early stages. I nice walk with my trusted assistant, Yogi, to clear my head would be a good start. Or, if it's later in the day, a glass of red wine.

The initial spark was watching my father suffer from irrelevancy. I've lived and worked outside of the USA for half my life and from what I've seen, our treatment of Seniors is poor compared with other cultures. I thought about extreme events that might bring about change and invented - in my head - a watch type device that tells people when they will die, based on blood analysis. My original thinking was that older people would become more respected because they might just take out their frustrations with impunity. There is some of that in Final Notice.
