The best thing about being a writer is that I get to work every single day doing something I freaking love. My coworker is my goofy pit bull and I don’t answer to anyone. I get to lose myself to my imagination and tell stories. It’s the best job I’ve ever had.

Everything inspires me. I know that sounds weird but it’s true. I see people and imagine stories for why they are wherever they are at that given time. I see a license plate and imagine why they’re so far from home. My brain is constantly working. When I sit down to write I put on music (without words mostly because I get distracted and sing and dance if not) and let it flow.

The Thing About Goodbye was a book I did not plan on writing. I actually started thinking about it while sitting down in a turkey coma after Thanksgiving dinner but before Black Friday Shopping. I got obsessed with the characters and started jotting down ideas and just couldn’t stop writing it. So, I guess I’m not sure where the idea came from but it was most definitely a passion project.

Write. Every single day. I don’t care if you think it’s garbage. Put the words down. Everyone has a story to tell. Tell yours.

When I get writer’s block I work on my character bible. I feel out my characters and their relationships and that gives me a more in depth look at them and helps me move past the block.
I also skip ahead if I have a plot point hanging me up and come back to write that part later.
