M.D. Navalinski The door I routinely locked before bed stood wide open, a cold breeze creating chaos in the living room. Large muddy footprints made a path into my daughter's bedroom, then back out, ending at the top of our basement steps...
M.D. Navalinski It is August and I have four books on my plate: First up I just finished Chances Are by Richard Russo. Still to come are There There by tommy Orange, Furious Hours by Casey Cep and I am currently enthralled by Chaos-Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the 60's by Tom O'Neill.
M.D. Navalinski Growing up in a time where only three television channels existed to choose from, I found the library in my hometown of Kelso Washington as my favorite pathway to imagination, creativity and everything else the written word provides. In my formative years I dabbled with rock journalism and an occasional short story or two, but it was the journals I kept during my travels throughout Mexico that inspired me to finally sit down and bring forth the many adventures experienced on the road.
M.D. Navalinski Having just put out my initial offering, The Manana Method, I am still trying to figure what exactly the right answer would be. Self publishing does not provide lucrative profits-I was aware of that from the get go-so I would have to say seeing your many hours of writing and rewriting actually in book form has added a surrealistic feeling of accomplishment to my life. Now that Barnes & Noble is offering my work on their online website, my ultimate goal is becomes getting Manana on the shelves of libraries, where my passion for reading as well as writing began.
M.D. Navalinski Level two of promoting The Manana Method, now attempting to catch the attention of the national market after nearly a year of grassroots level marketing and literally selling copies from the trunk of my car and my website, http://www.mindpiepublications.com/. I am well underway with my sophomore effort, still untitled, which will be three short novels (novellas?) about baseball, each with its own supernatural twists and turns. Right now I am going to spin the wheel and say approximate completion and ready for publication should fall sometime around Dec. of 2020.
M.D. Navalinski Once you have finished your manuscript be prepared to rewrite, rewrite and rewrite again. Maybe even again! Find yourself a good editor, as their suggestions, hard work, criticism and all else that comes with the job is more often than not golden. If you are self publishing do not expect to pick up the check when you go out for dinner with friends. Finally, even if your initial writing endeavors do not bring you immediate acclaim, keep moving forward, perfecting your craft.
M.D. Navalinski This was a trip taken back in '79 by a good friend and I. Our two months on the road were filled with so many adventures and interesting characters they begged to be brought to life. In my life I've been inspired by road tales by such diverse authors as Kerouac, Michener, all the way to Jimmy Buffett, who I consider to be a talented story teller.
