George M. Johnson I am working on more picture books, especially focussed on the climate crisis. I am also working on a limited series adaptation of a great novel Between These Walls by Michael Newman about three families and their struggles from the end of WWI through the Holocaust to three Middle-east wars. https://booklife.com/project/between-...
George M. Johnson Read as much as you can, especially in the genres you want to write in, as a way of testing your own tastes, responses, and ideas. Find your own way of expressing yourself. Persist in doing that even against all the odds.
George M. Johnson Being creative! There is nothing like creating something from a white page. You never know exactly where your ideas will go, so you start writing to see. Also, I love that you keep your own hours and can work as much or as little as you want. Sometimes I work on a piece almost obsessively and at other times I don't write much for weeks. I do feel best, though, when I am engaged on a piece.
George M. Johnson I think almost all writers have times when they don't feel particularly inspired. I keep various notebooks, one for children's writing, one for plays, screenplays, etc., so that when I am stuck I go to one of these notebooks for ideas that I have recorded. Usually this gets me going on the kernel of an idea. Hope this is helpful!
