Michael Neel I get inspired by music, movies, TV, video games, books, photography -- you name it. But the biggest inspiration always comes from something in real life that scares me. If it freaks me out, and I can't get it out of my head, I try to channel that into a story or film. If I can end up scaring myself, then I have a good chance of scaring someone else.
Michael Neel Usually it helps to do something else. Taking a walk with the dog works well, but the best by far is swimming. I swim laps every morning (or as many mornings as a I can), and it completely clears my mind. Most of the time, I'll have my breakthroughs there and talk into my phone (in a google doc) in the car afterwards, so I can get all my ideas out and not forget them.
Michael Neel After I directed the Drive-In Horrorshow film, co-creator Greg Ansin and I wanted to continue telling more stories. We wrote scripts for a fresh batch of creepy tales, and we decided to adapt many of them into short horror fiction! It also inspired us to create some brand-new stories, made just for our collection.
