The bottle of blended body was nestled next to cranberry apple pie filling, where it was visible to any shopper looking for a treat. A lonely widow hobbled into the store, finally ready to bake a fruity pie after the sudden death of her husband months ago.

A pleasant walk in a park stirred my mind; a row of lumpy bags, bulging with plastic balls changed from netted to solid canvas, to plastic. Why change material for such large bags? I figured there must be a body inside at least one of them...

I'd love to visit planet Fabar, a dangerous yet exciting world of greenery, crystal clear sunrooms, and fascinating wildlife. While my hair can't photosynthesize like the native Fabaris’ can, it could be fun to wear some decorative green streaks to blend into the society. I’d check out the eateries, and hike the wilderness, though only in the south where the creatures are herbivores.

Sing the Mice by J. Daneway, a science fiction book with genetic engineering. It has an intriguing opening. I'll also be reading Gentleman in Moscow for my local book club. As usual, it's not a book I would choose to pick up without encouragement. I'll let you know what I think.

Adults and mature teens who like science fiction, medical thrillers, or space adventure. The story starts with the characters in their teens and early twenties, but they age rapidly to the adults they will be in the rest of the stories. There’s some challenging vocabulary including medical and technical terms, but the story is action-packed from the start, with the characters at the heart of it. Graphic novel and art lovers of any age can enjoy the ship graphics dispersed throughout.

Coffee. Chocolate. More chocolate. Seriously, turn off computer games and shows, put on some classical music. Think of something from the news or a story you love. Read over what you've already written, or if you're starting, jot down a list of things that could happen in your story, in any order. Try a quick write for ten or fifteen minutes, in which you must keep writing something, anything. When you read over things you've written, even if it was terrible, or maybe especially if it was terrible, you can suddenly get ideas on how to improve it. From there, hopefully things take off.

Bringing something to life that didn't exist before is immensely satisfying. Within the parameters you've set for a story, you have the freedom to make anything happen. On the other side of that, sometimes you are "forced" to cause traumatic events that sadden you.

Write because you love it; because it something inside you drives you to do it. Have a plan for feeding yourself while you do it.

I'm working on the follow up to the first novel I published, "Earth and Beyond: MedSci Missions 1." I have no title yet, except that it will be "MedSci Missions 2." In part, I will be converting the first novel I drafted twenty or so years ago, which was set in the Star Trek universe. It had some good things in it, but I made up stuff that isn't really in the Star Trek universe, so it's best for me to work in my own setting and be free to work within the realistic science parameters I've set for it. No Time travel or magic in MedSci Missions.

Sometimes ideas pop into my head when I hear a news item. I then go on a mental tangent that causes me to miss the next item or few! Other times I sit in front of a blank screen and feed my brain with chocolate until something interesting happens. If you stay quiet and bored long enough, usually your mind will come up with something.

I was dismayed that Star Trek Enterprise was being cancelled, and that sparked ideas for a space series I would like to watch. After I suggested the idea on the internet, some interested science fiction fans threw in ideas for a new SF scenario and expected me to write it up, so I did. Since I was already working on novels, it ended up being one. I set aside other projects and put this one out first so contributors and followers could see it come to life.
