While I was visiting Gansu, China's far western province through which the Silk Road runs, I came upon a curious legend. People in a small village in the Gobi desert have Caucasian features mixed with their Chinese. They believe they are the descendants of Roman soldiers who came across the Silk Road centuries ago after a big battle. They even get dressed up as Roman soldiers and march up a hill where they have build a little Roman temple. Intrigued, I did some research and found there is evidence to support this, but no proof, enough however to set me on the path to write a historical novel with the legend as the theme.
