Even though I don't believe I could write fiction, being a no-fiction writer, I love the creative process and the satisfaction of telling a true story.

Because my book is non-fiction, I would generally review that latest of my research to set the atmosphere for writing. That did work on many occasions. Some days are not as conducive to writing. On those days, I would not frustrate myself, therefore I would not write.

The inspiration came from having all of my mother's memories in a box that I found in the attic of her home, when it was time to sell the house. My mother saved all her WWII memorabilia for over 70 years along with hundreds of letters, many photos and military documents. I could not just dump all these precious materials into a dumpster. I know will need to decide what how to deal with them, which most likely will be donated to a Polish museum.

This story honors the memory of my mother. The idea to tell my mom's story actually came from one of my daughters, who said you have to tell grandma's story.
