Robert M. Lynch I had always wanted to write, mostly due to writers I had admired: John Irving, Stephen King, and a couple others. But I guess my initial inspiration was my old friend, Jim. About eight years ago we had a nice conversation about writing and he gave me the nudge to start writing. I can't thank him enough. I love to write and I may never have taken that leap had it not been for him.
Robert M. Lynch I am so much better at expressing myself through written words than through conversation. When I write, I'm in the world of the story. I'm at the location, I'm in the moment, and I feel the emotion. I rarely get close to that kind of emersion when I'm just telling a story to an audience.
Robert M. Lynch The idea for The Bed I Made just fell into my lap when my elderly father sat me down and revealed details about his past. Until that time, I'd had no idea that his life challenges were any different than the typical working "Joe" whose main concern was supporting his family. By the time he'd finished talking, I felt as though I was looking at a stranger. In the weeks and months to follow, I realized that his was a powerfully inspiring story of triumph that others would benefit from. I knew that Joe's story would be as heartwrenching as it is heartwarming.
Robert M. Lynch I do my best to stop thinking about the story. In a few days, I just start cold, and ideas or direction usually flow.
