Kristin Pierce I find inspiration to write by paying attention to the things that spark curiosity, reflection, or inspiration within me. Sometimes it could be something as small as a quote or a picture. Other times, it might be an idea or a phrase for a title that pops into my mind. The key, I've found, is to pay attention to these little sparks and follow them with curiosity, while giving them room to grow. They don't always turn into anything significant, but these sparks can be seeds for something bigger down the road.
Kristin Pierce Oh, there are so many wonderful things about being a writer! For me, the best thing about being a writer is being able to follow my inspiration, write about what matters to me, and be my own boss. I thoroughly enjoy being involved in art direction with my illustrators and the design process, which are perks of self-publishing. The feeling of seeing my children's book vision come to life with incredible illustrations is so rewarding. Lastly, I love connecting with readers. I love doing school author visits to schools around my province to share self-empowerment, growth mindset, and the writing process with students. The children always inspire me and jump-start my creativity!
Kristin Pierce Whenever I have writer's block, it is a surefire sign that I am stuck in my logical mind and am overthinking everything. To deal with writer's block, I first interrupt my logical brain with movement--I go for a walk or hang my head upside down over the edge of my bed (if I can't find an aerial yoga class to get to). Then, I shift gears from what I was trying to force and, instead, follow my inspiration. If I'm really stuck, I crank up the creativity by doing anything from rhyme games to creative visualization.

If nothing has cured my writer's block, then I utilize my over-logical state of mind to do something that actually requires an over-logical state of mind. This could include the lovely tasks of analyzing amazon ad data, keyword research, or tracking sales and inventory. These things I usually consider dry and boring but are necessary to get done eventually. Sometimes, it's truly about utilizing the state of mind you're in for the moment and riding the tide until you're ready to shift gears back to creativity.
Kristin Pierce Write something every single day. It doesn't matter if it is a poem, a blog post, or 5000 words on your manuscript... just get in the habit of writing daily. Write about past experiences, your ponderings, imaginative adventures, or alternate realities. In doing so you will stretch your comfort zone, expand your wheelhouse, get comfortable with writing, and find what you really love to write about.
