For three decades acquaintances who knew my story urged me to write a book. I knew I had a riveting story, but I wasn't sure I was ready to send it out to the world. In 2012 a trauma therapist suggested I write a book. He thought it might help me heal. I listened. I dug out my journals, old photos, spent time on Google Earth, and wrote and rewrote. The process was cathartic. It helped me to put my mountaineering accident into perspective and to understand how it had shaped my life. I realized that my story might also be of benefit to others. I hope his book will inspire others to live their most important dreams and to find the courage and strength to heal whatever ails or haunts them.
