When people are positively affected by my writing. It means a lot when readers tell me my stories helped them get through a rough patch in life, or even if it made them smile. Writing is powerful, and it's awesome to know that my wacky ideas can actually do something good for others.

JUST. DO. IT.
I know it can be tough to share your writing with other people, but bouncing off ideas and getting feedback is so helpful to bettering and furthering your story. Novels may seem long, but each chapter on average (at least for me) is 10 pages. Only so much really happens in a chapter. It all adds up quickly.

Oh, this is such a terrible answer. . . I do things when I'm not supposed to! Back in college (when I wrote the book), I would suddenly feel inspired to write when I was in lecture or when I was supposed to be writing essays. Basically, whenever I have some responsibility other than writing, I'm magically motivated to write. When I have nothing else to do than write, I have terrible writer's block. It's a curse.

I've always been really interested in paranormal phenomena and paranormal investigators. As a Christian who grew up watching lots of anime with characters using some fantasy-version of Buddhism and Shintoism to fight demons, I always thought it'd be cool to make my own style of fighting, but with transforming crosses and whatnot. I guess in the end, Midnight Waltz is just a crazy mash-up of all my interests.
