I think about the problems I have and how the characters I'm writing would deal with them. I find it helpful both in terms of grounding the issues realistically, and also in helping my own mental state - how to approach problems or social situations, what might work, what might not, and why things may go a certain way.

I had re-watched the fantastic Veronica Mars TV show while unemployed in the summer of 2017, and decided I wanted to write what they would be doing presently. I also had a few ideas kicking around my head of social justice issues that I thought it would be interesting to address and plot points in the original show where they might be relevant - thus the three novellas I wrote.
